Mulberry Terrace began in 2015 as a writing portfolio and home of my main creative project, Letters from Mulberry Terrace. Since then, it has evolved into a hub for all my work, from workflow consulting and virtual assistant services to the podcast I host with Sara Pyle, The Parent Rap. Choose your adventure!
My virtual assistant and workflow consulting services specialize in women-led small businesses, caring professionals like doulas and therapists, writers, and creatives. If that sounds like you and you've hit a point where you need some extra help with the details, please let me know! I've got competitive hourly rates with no minimum and a-la-carte options for like copywriting and building newsletters.
I’m currently based in Toronto, Ontario after spending most of my life in parts of Illinois so rural that I learned to drive with imaginary streetlights. Part of me will always be a country mouse (especially in autumn), but I’ve come to love city life and these days I really can’t imagine myself anywhere else.
My skills and experience are diverse, thanks to an eclectic background: a Master’s degree in Library Science from the University of Illinois taught me to be organized and to think on my toes; a BA in Political Philosophy from Northern Illinois University taught me to think deeply and to love people in all their complicated, messy ways; several years as a certified birth doula and prenatal educator gave me the connection to the city I’d been craving so deeply and helped me tap into my compassion and communication skills. Work in a variety of fields including primary and secondary education, early literacy, university student affairs, non-profits, performing arts, health and wellness, marketing, and business round things out with practical knowledge and connections.
Above all, I believe in the tremendous value of community-done-well as a source of mental, physical, and social wellbeing. I work hard to know my neighbours and to be present with and accountable to the people living around me, and when I choose to work with people, it’s with long-lasting and fulfilling connections in mind. These subjects feature heavily in my writing, and I’m always seeking opportunities to explore topics in my areas of focus.
